As project coordinator at the Center for American Music in the University of Pittsburgh Library System, Christopher Lynch introduces students and researchers to archival materials including the Charles Henry Pace and Frankie Pace Gospel Music Collection. His research focuses on racial politics in American music from the mid-nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century, focusing especially on minstrelsy, musical theater, opera, and gospel. With Mark A. Boyle, he is currently preparing a critical edition of the music of Charles Henry Pace. His previous work has appeared in Musical Quarterly, American Music, Journal of the Society for American Music, and numerous books and reference sources. He is co-editor of Listening Across Borders: Musicology in the Global Classroom (Routledge, 2021) and a project leader for Voices Across Time (voices.pitt.edu), a resource that helps educators integrate music into K–12 curricula. He is also an artist lecturer at Carnegie Mellon University.
