Emily Schaad is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Activities at Clemson University, and orchestra director at South Carolina Governor’s School for Arts and Humanities. She is active as a clinician, guest conductor, string pedagogy consultant, and old-time fiddler, and is a frequent instructor for old-time music camps and workshops, blending a grounding in Appalachian tradition with instrumental pedagogy. Past engagements include public-school string programs, youth orchestras, and symphony orchestras. Her research is focused on transmission styles in American traditional music, aural learning, and inclusive learning environments.
