Evan MacCarthy

Evan A. MacCarthy teaches music history in the Department of Music & Dance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research focuses on the history of fifteenth-century music and music theory, as well as late medieval Roman and Milanese chant and liturgy, early modern diplomacy and music, and the reception of Greek antiquity in nineteenth-century music of the U.S. His work has been supported by fellowships from the American Academy in Rome, Villa I Tatti, and the West Virginia Humanities Council. He is currently President of the New England Chapter of the AMS, and has served on or presently serves on advisory boards of the AMS, the Renaissance Society of America, the Sewanee Medieval Colloquium, and the New England Medieval Consortium.
